Bryshere Gray Of Empire Sentenced To 8 Years In Prison

Bryshere Gray of 'Empire' sentenced to 8 years in prison

Former 'Empire' actor Bryshere Gray has been sentenced to eight years in prison on domestic violence and drug charges.

Gray was arrested in July 2020 after an incident with his wife at their home in Goodyear, Arizona. He was charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence, and possession of meth. He pleaded guilty to the charges in December 2021.

In addition to the prison sentence, Gray was also ordered to pay $25,000 in restitution to his wife and complete a domestic violence treatment program.

Gray's attorney, Shawn Holley, said in a statement that Gray is "deeply remorseful" for his actions.

"He is committed to getting the help he needs and to becoming a better person," Holley said.

Gray played the role of Hakeem Lyon on the Fox series "Empire" from 2015 to 2020. He was fired from the show after his arrest.

The domestic violence charges against Gray stem from an incident in which he allegedly choked his wife and threatened to kill her. The drug charges stem from the discovery of meth in his home.

Gray's sentencing comes amid a growing national conversation about domestic violence and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.
