Bill Masterton: The First Captain
Bill Masterton was the first captain of the Dallas Stars, then known as the Minnesota North Stars. He was a tough and gritty player who led by example. Masterton was tragically killed in a game against the Oakland Seals in 1968, but his legacy lives on as the NHL awards the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy annually to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.
